JDK Delivers Construction Clean at Oldway House

IMG-20190702-WA0001Due to the company’s reputation as a specialist in builder’s and sparkle clean for student accommodation blocks, JDK Cleaning has won the contract to clean the refurbishment of Oldway House in Swansea City Centre.

Run by the award-winning WRW construction firm, the project comprises the redevelopment of the existing Oldway House to provide 556 en-suite student bedrooms.  The existing 12-story office block sits opposite the railway station between Orchard Street and High Street and the scheme includes the construction of an additional two stories to the block.

The scheme provides 12 studios and the remainder cluster flat bedrooms along with a management area, show accommodation, common rooms, laundrette and a ground floor retail unit.

Once they had identified who was running the re-development of Oldway House, JDK Cleaning’s business development team made contact with WRW through Linked In.  Due to the cleaning company’s experience in carrying out similar contracts in Bristol and Bath, they were successful in winning this new, multi-thousand pound contract.

IMG-20190702-WA0000The contract involves builders’ cleans on every floor including de-taping and cleaning windows both inside and out. These builders’ cleans will be followed by a series of sparkle cleans, including the cleaning and dusting of furniture and flooring, before the handover in September.   The teaming clean have started at the top of the building so working from the 12th floor down as the fit outs are completed.

Four staff have been employed on the initial stages of work, going up to 15 cleaners closer to handover to ensure the deadline is met.  All staff have undertaken the relevant H & S training to gain CSCS cards as well as additional harness training as they are attached to outside scaffolding for the external window cleans.

Says Jack Kelleher, Managing Director of JDK Cleaning, “It’s the company’s reputation in the delivery of hi-spec construction, builders and sparkle cleans that has resulted in us gaining this contract with WRW.  Due to our experience in working on similar projects in the West Country we were able to demonstrate our knowledge and expertise in this field, as well as holding all of the relevant accreditations such as CHAS and Constructionline to enable us to begin work right away.

“As a result of winning the Oldway House contract, we have now also been appointed by Create Construction to carry out a similar project on the new student accommodation currently being developed on the Kingsway.”
