As gyms, pools and other leisure facilities have been given the go ahead to open at the end of the month, it is anticipated that Wales will follow suit a few weeks later. Owners of these facilities as well as facilities management companies, will be taking this time to get ready to welcome members and visitors and that will include a deep sanitisation clean as well as on-going cleaning regime.
General guidelines can be found on the UK Government website, but when it comes to cleaning advice, it’s best to consult with the experts. As a result, the experienced team at JDK Cleaning has come up with these guidelines to ensure your facilities are cleaned to the highest possible standards.
Leisure Facility Cleaning Guidelines
It’s important to maintain good ventilation in a sports, gym or leisure facility as coronavirus stays longer on indoor surfaces. So, it’s best to open windows and doors as often as possible.
All areas where people train and work out (including cardio and stationary gym equipment as well as free weights, mats, balls, etc) should be cleaned between use using appropriate disinfectants and cleaning products. If equipment cannot be cleaned after each user it should not be used at all.
Frequently touched surfaces should also be sanitised and cleaned on a regular basis throughout opening hours. These include door handles, light switches, cash tills, window.
Maintain current rigorous cleaning procedures, reviewing and adapting where necessary including in increased high-risk spaces including main thoroughfares, touch points and walls and floors in circulation routes (corridors, lifts, foyers, landings, stairs, lobbies).
Special attention should be applied to changing rooms including showers, sinks and other water systems. This is not only to help stop the spread of virus but also to minimise the risk of legionella and other diseases. Lockers should either be kept free of personal items or products provided to wash these down after use.
How JDK Cleaning Can Help
JDK Cleaning has direct experience of cleaning gyms and other leisure facilities prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, we were commissioned to carry out a post-refurbishment and sparkle clean at the new Simply Gym premises in Llansamlet following relocation.
We also carry out regular cleaning at the Oldwalls Collection in Gower including the holiday accommodation.
Recently, we have invested in a new machine, the Storm Ballistic Virus Killer which has been designed specifically to disinfect common touch points in the fight against coronavirus:
